In our STEM class, the students do WeDo coding with legos. The material is already engaging to young children, but when you add the coding aspect the possibilities are endless! It encourages team-building and problem-solving, two skills that will be important far beyond their Elementary years.
It’s a great opportunity for the students to observe living things in their habitat. The students get the chance to go outside as field researchers. They put their artistic and scientific skills to work in a hands-on way. Soon, the strawberry leaf they studied will grow into a strawberry plant!
Our school play is next week, and students are hard at work preparing for the big show! In addition to their roles, they are also building the set in art class. It is a lot of work to put on a production, but it is an extremely rewarding experience.
Throughout the year, our Elementary and Middle School students have been developing their writing skills through journaling, creative writing, and using the writing process. Last week, they showed off their skills at Bay’s annual Author’s Tea. Students read poems and stories that they wrote to their classmates and parents. We are so proud of what they have achieved this year, and we are excited to see how their language skills continue to grow!
If your child is in our Elementary or Middle school program, they will learn how to code a basic robotics program. They learn about basic functions in order to operate the robot they build. Many of the Montessori materials used are “self-correcting”, which means that the child can recognize a problem and fix it without guidance. In this regard, learning how to code is a natural addition to the Montessori program!
The days are finally warming up and we are getting excited for summer! We plan to open our pool very soon so the students can swim for P.E. The pool will also be open all summer long during our camps. Our Kindergarten and Elementary campers will swim every afternoon, weather permitting. We will also hold swim lessons for all age campers. Bring on the warm weather!
