Mission
Statement
Our mission is to provide a safe,
stimulating, challenging, environment in which our children may peak
their curiosity and overcome developmental hurdles in the exploration
of themselves and our world. Each child leaving Bay
Montessori School has a sense of independence, self-esteem,
self-confidence, self discipline, and responsibility, prepared to meet
and overcome challenges they will encounter as they continue to grow
and explore post-Montessori.
Goals
and Aims (back to top)
The primary goal of Bay Montessori School is to
help each child reach full potential in all areas of his or her life.
The Montessori approach is not just a method; it is a
response to life. Bay Montessori School provides an
environment that is enriched with materials that meet the developmental
needs of the child. Each specifically designed classroom is scaled to
the size of the child and will allow the child to learn at his or her
own pace. The child will participate in the development of
social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination.
The task of the Directress is to prepare
the environment, guide the child to it and assist in the unfolding of
the child's being.

anyone except his or her parents (or designated car pool driver) unless
the directress is notified in writing.

Illness
Out of consideration for your child and other children, please keep
your child home from school:
- the first day of a cold or sore throat, as this is the most
contagious time
- when he/she has a persistent, deep cough
- when he/she has a heavy nasal discharge
- for twenty-four hours after his/her temperature returns to normal
- for twenty-four hours after he/she had diarrhea or vomiting, if you

medication.
Allergies
As with any medical condition, please notify the school if your child
currently has or develops any allergy.
Nutrition (back to top)
Snack
All children ages 2-Kindergarten are served a light, nutritious snack
mid-morning. Elementary students may bring a nutritious snack if
desired. Extended day children will also be served a mid-afternoon
snack. If at anytime you wish to send snack for the class please do.
Please inform the directress if your child is allergic to any foods.

Lunch
(back

If your child will be staying for lunch, please send a sandwich, fruit,
and a nutritious snack to school. Please no candy, chocolate, soda or
gum. Milk is provided for all children. So that you will know what your
child has consumed, all uneaten portions of the lunch will be sent home
with your child. This will assist you in judging the amount of food to
be packed. Each Wednesday is "Pizza Day" the school will provide the
pizza.
Nutritious
Suggestions:
Dried and fresh fruits
Cooked and raw vegetables
Granola bars
Use of different breads to make sandwiches
Salads
Crackers with spreads (jelly, peanut butter, tuna, cream cheese,
cheese)
Nuts and seeds (not suitable for children under 3 because they may
choke)
What to Bring to School/ Personal Belongings
Attire:
Please
dress your child(ren) neatly and simply in clothes not too good to risk
stains. There will be some outside activity daily, weather permitting.
It is requested that your child's name be on all articles of clothing
including coats, hats, sweaters, mittens, etc., as several children may
have identical clothing. Some fasteners are frustrating to the young
child. It is always a good idea to make sure your child is able to
fasten (button, zip, snap, etc.) his/her own clothing.
Elementary Uniform Policy
(back
to top)
The elementary students have a uniform policy.
School shirts are embroidered with the school name and are
available in white, red and blue. They must be worn every
day with either navy or khaki jumper, pants, shorts or skirt.
Change of Clothing
Please send a complete change of labeled clothes (including underwear
and socks) to be kept at school for ages 2 - 5. If the change of
clothes is used, please remember to send a replacement the next day.
School
Bags
To assist in the organization of our students, Bay Montessori
recommends that each child purchase a bag in which they will carry
lunch box, folder (elementary), art work, and supplies.
Parents should order their bags from Lands End at 1-800-469-2222, item
# 098680. Be sure to mention your school preferred
number, 9000-3883-7, at the beginning of your order.
Toys
and Things (back
to top)
Toys, gum, money and candy should be enjoyed at home. Please do not
allow your child to bring valuables or irreplaceable items to school or
daycare. Please understand the following:
(1) Children are totally responsible for items they bring to school.
(2)It is not the teacher's responsibility to find missing items.
We
understand that children enjoy bringing things to share with the class
and the directress will encourage certain items to be brought from home
during the school year.
Lost and Found
If your child is missing an article of
clothing, please check our lost and found box located in the office.
There are also donated uniforms in the school office for your taking
(free).

If you have a message for the directress please write it down, as it is
sometimes hard to remember verbal messages.
